"Water Works" Project launches

An exciting new project to clean beaches and waterways

Eco Rangers NI is thrilled to announce that they have received funding from Live Here Love Here for their exciting new project called "Water Works". This funding will enable us to launch a four-year program focused on cleaning up beaches and waterways in the Mid and East Antrim area.

One of the key components of the "Water Works" project is the purchase and installation of a river litter boom. This innovative solution will be implemented in collaboration with the Mid and East Antrim Council. The custom-made boom will be strategically placed in the river near Carrickfergus Amphitheatre, acting as a barrier to prevent litter and debris from reaching Belfast Lough, before it can cause harm to the marine environment. By intercepting and containing the waste, the boom will help protect the local ecosystem and preserve the natural beauty of the area and enable volunteers and Council staff to safely remove litter and debris for disposal or recycling.

We aim to remove tonnes of litter from the beaches and waterways during the course of this project, and launched it on 2 January with a litter pick at Trooperslane Beach where we collected 53.5kg of marine waste.

The "Water Works" project is not only about cleaning up the beaches and waterways but also about raising awareness and promoting responsible waste management practices. Through educational initiatives and community engagement, we plan to inspire individuals to take action and make a positive difference to - either by joining us, or taking their own action. The project will therefore include lots of public events and activities - expect to see our gazebo at a beach near you this year!

Eco Rangers NI is grateful to Live Here Love Here for their support and funding, which has made the "Water Works" project possible. This investment will have a significant impact on the environmental health of the Mid and East Antrim area, creating a cleaner and more sustainable future for generations to come.
